This two-week course will inspire any child interested in flight. We will begin by learning about aviation history, specifically kites, hot air balloons, The Wright Brothers, Amelia Earhart, The Hindenburg, helicopters, rockets, as well as present-day jets. The students will create many hands-on flying objects. Children will assemble and paint balsa wood model planes, have balloons races, create parachutes and boomerangs as well as learn the best way to fly both paper and Styrofoam planes. Through daily read alouds the students will learn the parts of a plane, the people throughout time who were instrumental in inventing and flying these incredible flying machines as well as pilot dialogue (both past and present).
